Developed packaging design for Quality Street

After group critic and my research I decided to create packaging, which people haven't seen before. This packaging opens in very interesting way- spiral lid. The idea is - when customer buys it as a present- it could get interest only because of the way how the lid opens. It is like you open Christmas present. I created my own packaging design to reflect my all research, which I have done during all my study. I devided my essay on 12 bits. Every bit I hided in a sweet and mixed it with other sweets, which are placed into my tin. The person, who will read my essay will have to open sweet to find out, what's written there.

First Quality Street packaging design

After visiting Halifax Bankfield Museum, I was influenced by things ,what I have seen in there, and I tried to create my own packaging design. I took pictures of the sweets, which later applied on my design. Also I used husars, to reflect past tenses. During my visit to museum, I took a lot of pistures of old Quality Street's packaging designs. I tried to create, something, what people used to buy many,many years ago. It was quite difficult, because I used different kinds of software to create my design, but old designs were produced manualy: with paper and hand. Then I presented my design to group critic to get feedback and to find out what could I make better. After group critic I learned that I need to be consistent in my ideas and there are a lot of different ideas going on my tin.

So, after group critic i went to Sainsbury's, Asda's to have a look curent packaging designs. I spent few hours researching into the sweets packaging designs. When I came home, I decided that my packaging need to be looking simple and also unusual to get interest from customers. And I started work on my new Quality Street's design

Visiting Halifax Bankfield museum

Today, I visited Halifax Bankfiled Museum, where I interviewed Jeff Wilkinson, who told me a lot about Quality Street history, design. Showed me a lot of evidence - how Quality Street packaging looked like many years ago. This was amazing, because it is impossible to find such powerful evidence in internet, but Halifax Bankfield Museum has so many packaging examples of past tenses. My first Quality Street tin's prototype

Started work on making my own Quality Street tin. To make sure that all measurements will be precise- I decided to draw my own prototype, then cut it and seal it. It took me ages to finish it

Presented my design solutions to the group. They picked up 2 designs out of four. Thinking to use hussar characters for my design.

First ideas for Quality Street packaging design

The subject for my essay and research is Nestle product 'Quality street'. I will try to find out as much as possible about this product by visiting places, interviewing people, magazines, internet. So far I did a bit of research in internet but there's not a lot of information about the history of this product. Based on my findings I came up with few ideas for my own Quality Street box, which you can see above.
